When I stumbled upon this video, I was amazed at how well it captured a common struggle in relationships so beautifully in less than 2 minutes. I wasn't sure if I should laugh out loud (because I did) at the absurdity of it, or if I should acknowledge the pang of hurt that was lurking from the truth of it.
I'll admit, I'm usually the one saying "I just need you to listen". It doesn't seem like an odd or overwhelming request to me. This video however, gave me a little bit of insight into how confusing and frustrating it must be to be on the other side of it - trying to ignore what seems to be the obvious issue, to listen to some vague complaint or concern that doesn't seem to go anywhere.
While there is some necessity to address the issues and challenges in our relationships, including the nail, I believe it is equally important to understand how these issues impact us and shape our world. I think that most of us want to be seen, heard, and understood before someone comes swooping in to "fix" us, dismissing our pain, confusion, and fears.
